Ruminant management
After calving the milk production of dairy cows increases rapidly to reach its peak after 6 to 9 weeks. Because of this increasing milk production the energy demand of the animal is very high. The dry matter intake of the animal however is limited in this period. Therefore the animal’s demand for extra energy is much higher than the intake. This will cause an energy deficiency, especially in the first weeks after calving. This so called Negative Energy Balance can lead to severe metabolic disorders in the fresh lactating cow. Lacto Extra Energy is a concentrated form of quickly absorbable energy. It supplies the cow with highly metabolizable energy, which is very suitable for the cow.
